Frog

The black-spotted pond frog (Pelophylax nigromaculatus), also known as the Asian common frog, is a species of frog found in East Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, and parts of Russia. It is named for the black spots that adorn its olive to brownish-green back, which can vary in size and pattern. These frogs are typically found in ponds, marshes, rice fields, and other freshwater habitats. Black-spotted pond frogs are known for their distinctive call, which sounds like a rapid series of knocking sounds. They are primarily nocturnal, feeding on a variety of small invertebrates such as insects, spiders, and worms. Like other frogs, they play a vital role in their ecosystems by controlling insect populations and serving as prey for larger animals. During the breeding season, which typically occurs in spring and summer, male black-spotted pond frogs call to attract females. After mating, females lay their eggs in shallow water, where they hatch into tadpoles and undergo metamorphosis into adult frogs. These frogs face threats from habitat loss, pollution, and collection for the pet trade, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts to protect their populations.
